You Should Visit "Uji"Instead of Kyoto City for 5 Photogenic Spots

In Kyoto prefecture, Kyoto city is the most famous city so many tourists visit there. However, "Uji city", located next to Kyoto city, is also fascinating place.

It is easy to go to Uji city from Kyoto city. When you take the Rapid train, it takes you only 18 min to get to Uji station from Kyoto station. Uji is famous for temples and shrines. It is also Major maccha (green tea) producing region of Japan.

In this article, I will introduce you to Uji city's photogenic places and maccha products.

Uji city's 5 photogenic places

1. Asagiri bridge

Asagiri bridge is a famous bridge in this city and it appears in the Tale of Genji-monogatari. Especially during autumn, you can take beautiful and gorgeous pictures with Uji river surrounded by autumn leaves and the vivid red bridge.

2. Sawarabi-no-Michi (sawarabi street)

Sawarabi no Michi is the path leading up to the Genji minogatari Museum from the east side of Uji river. I recommend you to walk along this street if you want to get out of the crowd and enjoy taking photos. Since its environment is beautiful with greeneries around, it is really relaxing especially during autumn.

3. Manpukuji-temple

This temple is not as famous, but you can take some nice pictures. Mapukuji is kind of unique temple because you can find a lot of chine influence in the buildings and their details. Since it is not crowded, you can feel free to take a lot of pictures.

4 & 5. Ujigami shrine and Uji shrine

Ujigami Shrine is a Shinto shrine and it has been designated as a world heritage site. Originally, this shrine was built as a guardian shrine for the nearby Byōdō-in, and is adjacent to the Uji Shrine. Ujigami shrine is the counterpart of Uji Shrine. Especially during autumn, you are able to take beautiful pictures.
